Busy Few Months for Local Industry and Energy NL Events

It is amazing how quickly summer has come and gone, and October has arrived already. And the fall is shaping up to be a very busy one (as always!).  I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer and you were able to spend some quality time making memories with family and friends.

There has been a lot of things happening within the energy industry and I wanted to provide a quick update to help keep you informed.

During the week of September 18– 23, I was in Calgary participating in the 24th World Petroleum Congress 2023. This event brought together over 5000 delegates from more than 100 countries, and I was honoured to speak on a panel and highlight our province’s tremendous energy resources. WPC provided a great opportunity for important conversations on the latest innovations and paths forward towards lower emissions and a net zero future. Later in the week I was honoured to join Premier Furey as the province hosted a job fair in Fort McMurray to help fill the approximately 79,000 job openings the province expects in the next decade. About 20 Newfoundland and Labrador organizations, including 10 Energy NL members, participated in the event to showcase their companies and seek future employees. The event was a creative way to share information about the opportunities upcoming in our province, with much of those in the energy sector. It was a great success.

On September 28th, Energy NL hosted the Industry Achievement Awards Gala at the Delta St. John’s Hotel & Conference Centre. This gala presented a great opportunity for the industry to come together to celebrate the leaders in the Newfoundland and Labrador energy industry. The five awards presented were:

Energy NL John C. Crosbie Award for Outstanding Contribution – Dr. Ciaran O’Shea

Energy NL Rising Star Award – Barbara O’Rielly

Energy NL Diversity and Inclusion Award – DF Barnes

Energy NL Business Growth Award – The Port of Argentia

Energy NL Innovation in Environmental Sustainability Award – Eastern Composite Services

On October 11, Energy NL hosted a renewable energy supplier development session at the Delta St. John’s Hotel & Conference Centre. During this session five renewable energy companies (ABO-Wind, EverWind Fuels, Exploits Valley Renewable Energy Corporation, Pattern Energy and World Energy GH2) gave presentations detailing their project plans for Newfoundland and Labrador. In the afternoon, fofty Energy NL members had the opportunity to share their capabilities with the developers.

Recently members travelled to Aberdeen, Scotland as part of the Newfoundland and Labrador delegation for the Offshore Europe Conference. It was a great opportunity for members to meet with current suppliers and seek new collaborations. There was also significant interest in the energy resources of our province – both offshore and onshore – by the many visitors to the Atlantic Canada booth hosted by Energy NL and the governments of Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia.

Energy NL is planning a Member Capabilities Tour on Wednesday, November 22. The tour will include site visits to four member companies in the Donovan’s area: Tam International Solutions, Halliburton, Sleipnir Lift Management, and RelyOn Nutec. This is an opportunity for members to showcase what they do best and have their industry colleagues have a better understanding of how they may collaborate. The member capabilities tour is reserved on a first-come-first-serve basis, with a bus provided by Parsons & Sons Transportation Ltd., accommodating a maximum of 35 participants.

Energy NL is very excited to host a Member Social Hour at Landwash Brewery on Wednesday, November 8th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Space is limited and there is a limit of one person per company. Also, we will host the Energy NL Christmas Social on December 6th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Sheraton Hotel Courtyard.

As you can see, the coming months are sure to be an exciting time for our industry with many great business development and networking opportunities for our members. I encourage you to register early for our upcoming events to avoid missing out, and I look forward to seeing you there!

Sincerely,

Charlene
