Session 1: The Energy Mix & The Opportunity: An Exploration

The Newfoundland and Labrador Energy sector has a unique mix of lower carbon energy sources and leading ESG standards that can help meet the global demand for energy. The first session of the Energy NL Conference & Exhibition 2024 will explore the energy mix of Newfoundland and Labrador and the opportunity available for success in an ever-changing global energy market.

Session 2: Regulatory (Un)Certainty: Overcoming Challenges to Be Competitive

Investors desire regulatory certainty within the jurisdictions they decide to operate in. The Newfoundland and Labrador energy sector has struggled with apparent regulatory (un)certainty for some time, with ever increasing layers of regulations and regulatory changes on the horizon. This session will explore the regulatory framework of the Newfoundland and Labrador energy sector within a global context and how the sector can overcome perceived challenges on the road to competitiveness, sustainability, and prosperity.

Session 3: Enabling Net Zero: Newfoundland and Labrador Energy Leadership

Across the world nations and organizations have agreed to lower emissions with goals to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. Achieving these laudable, yet lofty ambitions, will take significant investment and commitment, along with lower carbon energy sources. This session will discuss Newfoundland and Labrador’s own path to net zero and how it can enable Canada and the world achieve this objective during the challenging period of a new energy evolution.

Session 4: Beginning to Understand: Indigenous Participation in Resource Projects

Energy projects in Canada cannot and should not proceed without meaningful involvement and engagement of Indigenous peoples. Yet, many organizations and individuals within the energy sector are unsure of how participation and consultation should occur. A panel of Indigenous leaders and members of the energy sector will discuss this issue to help educate the sector on meaningful inclusion and how to begin to understand Indigenous participation in resource projects.

Session 5: Advancing Energy Through Innovation: New Technologies & Opportunities

Innovation is the leading force of change in the energy sector, from technological advances to new storage opportunities and fuel sources. Innovative approaches provide solutions to the challenges facing the energy sector while also providing untold opportunities for energy development, safety, and lowering environmental impacts. Participants in this session will discuss innovation in the global energy sector; specifically, how innovation and technology are creating opportunities in the Newfoundland and Labrador energy sector.

Session 6: Readying for Success: How to Prepare for the Modern Energy Economy

In our global economy, no sector or organization can succeed without a vision for the education and labour needs of the future, along with a clear focus on ESG principles. The final session of the Energy NL Conference & Exhibition 2024 explores the critical role these elements will play in the modern energy economy and how delegates can apply best practices within their own organization to help further their success and participation in the supply and service value chain of the world’s leading companies.
