Director

Steve Priestley
Chief Operating Officer and Co-founder
Altomaxx Technologies Inc

I have over 25 years’ experience in the innovation and environmental sectors and 10+ years as a C-suite executive, building businesses right here in Newfoundland and Labrador. What I bring is proven success in business operations, organizational growth and global strategic partnerships. As Chief Operating Officer and Co-founder of Altomaxx, we have been able to grow and expand with 4 offices across Canada, an office in Denmark, Ireland, Abu Dhabi and currently expanding into Guyana.

Growing a service company organically comes with its challenges. For every win, there are two hurdles and with the shifting global energy markets, I feel advocacy for SMEs in Newfoundland and Labrador’s oil and gas and energy sector has never mattered more. With generational projects being announced in the province and still in the pipeline, local SMEs within the supply chain will play a foundational role. Altomaxx has completed work on five continents in the past year within the energy sector and is working with some of the largest producers globally, providing drone inspection and audit services with a primarily Newfoundland and Labrador workforce. We have grown our team from graduates of the CNA, the Marine Institute and Memorial University.

In 2025 I was recognized as a Top50 Executive from Atlantic Business Magazine and in 2023 and 2025 a finalist of the Ontario Premier Awards for Outstanding Leadership in Innovation, Technology & STEM. When not travelling, our team and I spend time in schools sharing knowledge about the industry, with live demonstrations of commercial grade drones, putting tech in the hands of the next generation of drone pilots, advocating for careers that people may not know exist. My daughter and our youth deserve the opportunity to know what is out there in the NL tech sector for careers, and it’s not always available so we believe we are doing our small part to contribute.

Altomaxx is the only global certification body for ISO 21384-3 Unmanned Flight. That means any producer, regulator, manufacturer or service company that wants to adopt or become certified must work with us, a company based right here in NL. I am on Teams calls daily with leaders from these sectors from around the world advocating for the capabilities of NL, not just what we are doing now, but what we are doing in the future, and about our talent pool. We have a unique skill set here in the NL and in Canada, and the ISO certification provides a platform to show what we are capable of.

SMEs have its place in the sector, and Altomaxx is proof of that. I want to be able to support the province that supports us, the ecosystem that EnergyNL has created and those who reside here. There has never been a better time for people to want to stay and grow in.

Gillian Pearson
VP Partnerships and Client Relations Lead

Robot Interactive + Marketing Ltd and Engage Technologies

Gillian serves as VP Partnerships and Client Relations Lead with sister companies Robot Agency and Engage Technologies, where her work spans communications and industry development. She works directly with many members of the energy industry supply chain, helping organizations navigate complex environments and increase marketability. She is a key project lead on a collaborative cross-country partnership developing rechargeable battery pads to integrate with Engage’s proprietary real-time situational awareness software in remote, harsh, and offshore marine environments.

Gillian attended Memorial University, where both her undergraduate and graduate studies focused on Public Policy and Strategic Communications. Her work across government and industry has included stakeholder engagement, governance, program development, and communications in highly regulated, multi-stakeholder environments –  experience that has given her a practical understanding of how policy, industry, and community interests intersect and evolve.

As a member of the Energy NL Board, Gillian has been a consistent advocate for the organization’s core mandate: ensuring the province’s supply and service sector remains at the forefront of every opportunity and well represented in the policy discussions shaping the industry’s future. Over the past two years, she has contributed to key advocacy issues including the elimination of the emissions cap, exploration incentives, government relations, and local benefits. She has also served on the scholarship selection committee and is a member of the research, policy, and communications committee. Gillian believes Energy NL has a serious responsibility to ensure local companies and workers benefit fully from the province’s energy resources – and that honouring that responsibility means big picture thinking, with advocacy grounded in local realities and the spirit of the Atlantic Accord.

Beyond her professional work, she has been actively involved in community advocacy around social and economic issues. As past Co-Chair of Equal Voice Newfoundland and Labrador, she worked closely with government to engage key stakeholders in addressing the real barriers faced by people seeking leadership roles in their community – work grounded in the belief that effective support is built around real pain points, not talking points. She has also served on boards and committees with her local family resource centre, skating club, and currently sits on the school council of St. Peter’s Primary.

Originally from a small community along Conception Bay North, Gillian is deeply invested in Newfoundland and Labrador’s long-term economic success, and believes the province’s energy sector is foundational to a future where businesses and families can choose to stay, work, and grow together. She is seeking a second term on the Energy NL Board, representing and advocating for the supply and service sector that underpins it all.
Outside of her professional and volunteer work, you’ll likely find her at the rink or on the field with her two young boys – reminding herself, as she often does, that this is exactly what it’s all for.

Barry Yetman, P. Eng
VP Eastern Canada
Wood.

My career in Newfoundland and Labrador’s energy industry has been both rewarding and opportunity driven. As the industry enters a defining period, I am committed to giving back by contributing my experience, insight, and industry connections as a member of the Energy NL Board of Directors.

I have 30 years of experience across the energy sector, having held senior leadership and technical roles with global service providers and provincial public utilities.  As Vice President, Eastern Canada at Wood, I lead multidisciplinary engineering, project delivery, and construction teams that support oil and gas, power, and mining projects across Atlantic Canada.  With our Canadian operations team led from St. John’s, Wood has a unique position in the local supply chain, often identifying local companies to support integrated oil and gas projects.

I hold an MBA from Memorial University of Newfoundland and I am a long‑standing member of the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL). I bring governance and board‑level experience, along with a leadership style grounded in collaboration, accountability, and long‑term strategic thinking. Throughout my career, I have been committed to workforce development, mentorship, and building local capability to ensure Newfoundland and Labrador remains competitive at home and internationally.

As a father of three, my commitment to the energy industry is inseparable from a desire to help build a strong, sustainable future for my children and for generations to come in this province. I truly believe that responsible energy development is essential to maintaining economic opportunity, supporting communities, and keeping Newfoundland and Labrador a place where young people can build meaningful careers.

Outside of work I am active in the community, mental health is an issue I care deeply about, and I have participated in the annual Bell Island Tickle Swim nine times to raise both funding and awareness.  It has allowed me to give back while gaining a better understanding of the importance of strong supports and open conversations. This is an important consideration when participating in high performance and safety critical industries.

Energy NL has been clear in its priorities; strengthening offshore oil and gas competitiveness, supporting exploration and investment attraction, advocating for a stable and competitive regulatory environment, and ensuring the supply and service sector remains strong and globally competitive.  At the same time, our industry must be mindful when advancing emerging opportunities to protect existing jobs, expertise, and infrastructure. I believe our future must be rooted in real economic outcomes for our province and people.

If elected, I will bring a balanced, experienced, and collaborative voice to the Energy NL Board that is focused on long term prosperity and a strong energy future.
