(St. John’s, NL – February 13, 2026) Energy NL remembers the 84 crew members of the Ocean Ranger who tragically lost their lives during an offshore storm in February 1982.
“It has been 44 years since the loss of 84 crew members of the Ocean Ranger and their legacy remains as clear now as it was that stormy February day in 1982. While the resulting actions to enhance offshore safety can never bring back the 84 men lost on the Ocean Ranger, a world-leading safety regime has improved the working conditions of everyone who has come after them. By remembering their loss and committing to a safety-oriented offshore, we pay tribute to those 84 lives lost and remember the family and friends that love them so.”
• Charlene Johnson, Energy NL CEO
The Ocean Ranger semi-submersible drill rig sank on February 15, 1982, while exploring the Grand Banks of Newfoundland. All 84 crew members died.
