Energy NL CEO Remembers Mr. Robert (Rob) Crosbie

(St. John’s, NL – April 20, 2025) The following statement was issued today by Energy NL CEO Charlene Johnson on the passing of Rob Crosbie.
“The entire Newfoundland and Labrador energy industry is mourning the loss of Mr. Rob Crosbie, an industry titan who played a leading role in starting the offshore oil and gas industry and forming the energy industry advocacy association Energy NL.

From the inception of the offshore oil and gas industry, Rob Crosbie was an ardent advocate for Newfoundland and Labrador people and companies not only participating in, but leading and building the offshore into what it has become today. He was passionate about not only the role his company and his employees could and should play in the industry, but supported and mentored others to ensure Newfoundland and Labrador companies built the capacity to participate in the sector and eventually bring their world-class skills around the world.

Rob Crosbie was also a philanthropist who was deeply involved in the community he lived, worked, and loved so much. Invested into the Order of Canada in 2019, his accolades are many, including an honourary Doctor of Laws degree from Memorial University, receiving the Energy NL Outstanding Contribution Award, and being a member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Business Hall of Fame. Most of all, he was a loving husband and father who will be deeply missed, yet forever remembered.

Personally, Rob was an exceptional mentor, always willing to share his knowledge and experience when I asked him for advice. Always supportive and always humble, his decades of business and industry knowledge helped me and Energy NL through many challenging situations. Rob had experienced it all and gave wise counsel to anyone experiencing difficult times in the energy industry.

On behalf of the Energy NL board of directors, staff and over 500 member companies who have all benefited from Rob Crosbie’s efforts, advice, and dedication, I offer my sincerest condolences to Rob’s family, friends, and colleagues. While nothing can compensate for the loss and grief you are feeling at this time, please know an entire community is also mourning your loss but is forever grateful for having known Rob and benefiting from his lifelong commitment to creating a successful offshore oil and gas industry for all of Newfoundland and Labrador.”

Energy NL represents over 500 member organizations worldwide which are involved in the energy sector. Members are active in all areas of the supply and service sector and include a diverse representation of businesses that range from offshore supply vessels and helicopters, carbon reduction and sustainable technologies, health and safety equipment and training, engineering solutions and fabricators to law firms and human resource agencies.
