Energy NL Remembers the Ocean Ranger

(St. John’s, NL – February 15, 2023) Today is the 41st anniversary of the sinking of the Ocean Ranger semi-submersible drill rig on the Grand Banks of Newfoundland. Energy NL encourages all members of the energy sector to remember the 84 crew members who lost their lives and the families impacted, and to reflect upon what the tragedy has meant for the industry and our province.

“February 15 is a sombre day in Newfoundland and Labrador, a day to reflect upon the Ocean Ranger tragedy, the 84 lives lost, the families and friends who are forever impacted, and the implications for our energy sector. It remains the responsibility of us all to keep their memory alive and each day ensure those who work in our industry return home safely to their loved ones.”

A memorial service organized by Gonzaga High School will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 16 at the Basilica Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, 200 Military Road, St. John’s.

Energy NL represents approximately 500 member organizations worldwide which are involved in the energy sector.
