LNG Proposed Offshore Gas Hub Registers for Environmental Assessment

A proposed development to supply international energy markets with liquified natural gas from the province’s offshore has been registered for environmental assessment.

LNG Newfoundland and Labrador Limited, which is working in partnership with the First National Major Projects Coalition and the Miawpukek First Nation, is proposing to develop an offshore gas hub in the Jeanne d’Arc Basin, and a pipeline from there to Grassy Point in Placentia Bay.

The development would include a natural gas liquefication facility and marine export transport terminal at Grassy Point.

The proposal for the project itself dates back more than a decade when it underwent a federal assessment.

The deadline for public comment is December 30th, with the minister’s decision due by January 7th, 2022.
