The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology, today announced the establishment of a committee of industry experts to provide implementation oversight and ensure that the recommendations of the Oil and Gas Recovery Task Force (task force) are addressed.

Committee members include: Nena Abundo, Department of Industry, Energy and Technology); Paul Barnes, CAPP; Stephanie Curran, Oil and Gas Industry Development Council; Tim Gardiner, NRCan; Charlene Johnson, Noia; Jim Keating, Oil and Gas Corporation of Newfoundland and Labrador; Andy Noseworthy, ACOA; Scott Tessier, CNLOPB; and, Karen Winsor, task force. The committee is chaired by Pierre Tobin, Assistant Deputy Minister with Industry, Energy and Technology and will provide regular updates to the Oil and Gas Industry Development Council.

The committee will have four working groups aligned with the four Oil and Gas Recovery Task Force working groups:

• Energy transition;

• Policy and regulatory; and,
• Supply chain.

The task force’s final report was submitted to the Provincial Government on April 27, 2021, and recommended the establishment of an implementation committee within 60 days of the report submission. The first meeting of the committee was held on June 22.

Newfoundland and Labrador’s offshore oil and gas industry represents one of the lowest carbon per barrel footprints in the world. It contributed more than $22 billion in royalties (to the end of 2019) and directly employed over 6,000 people as well as thousands more in supporting industries (at the end of March 2020).

“This implementation committee aligns the province’s industry leaders to help drive our offshore recovery, while sustaining the industry in the short-term. Improving our competiveness is key, and I am confident this group will play a key role in guiding us in the months and years ahead. I would like to thank the members of the committee for agreeing to lend their valuable experience and insight to this important task.”
Honourable Andrew Parsons
Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology
