NL Company Lands Major Contract with Canadian Space Agency

A Newfoundland and Labrador company has landed a major contract with the Canadian Space Agency and they are hoping it will have positive impacts on the local economy.

C-CORE recently inked a $350,000 deal to replace the agency’s third generation of RADARSAT technology.

RADARSAT’s third generation is a constellation of three satellites used to observe Canada. The current generation will be replaced in 2026.

Desmond Power, the Vice-President of Remote Sensing at C-CORE, says the information gathered by the satellites is very useful.

According to Power, the technology is used to monitor things like ships, icebergs, the movement of land, the oil sands, and the Arctic.

He believes this contract could have great economic benefits for the province. Power says it will create high-tech, high-paying, and sustainable jobs which he says is a great way to diversify the economy.
