Noia Remembers Flight 491 Tragedy

March 12 marks the ninth anniversary of the Flight 491 tragedy. Today, the Newfoundland and Labrador Oil & Gas Industries Association (Noia) remembers the victims of this terrible accident.

“On behalf of Noia’s membership and our Board of Directors, our thoughts and prayers remain with the families and friends of those who lost their lives as a result of this tragedy,” said Charlene Johnson, Noia CEO. “While occurring nine years ago, its impact is still strongly felt by all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, especially those involved in the offshore industry.”

On March 12, 2009, Flight 491 crashed off the province’s shores while enroute to the SeaRose FPSO in the White Rose oil field and Hibernia platform in the Hibernia oilfield, taking the lives of 17 passengers.

Noia representatives will join members of the general public at the Ninth Annual Flight 491 Memorial Service, which is taking place on Monday, March 12, at St. Mary’s Anglican Church on Craigmillar Avenue. There is 6:30 p.m. pre-service music followed by the service starting at 7 p.m. and everyone is welcome.
