White Rose Extension Project Positive News for the NL Offshore Industry

St. John’s, NL (May 29, 2017) — The Newfoundland and Labrador Oil & Gas Industries Association (Noia) is applauding Husky Energy’s announcement today that it is moving forward with the West White Rose Project.

Husky Energy and its partners, Suncor Energy and Nalcor Energy, will use a fixed wellhead platform tied to the SeaRose floating production, storage and offloading vessel. The platform will enable Husky and partners to maximize resource recovery in the West White Rose field.

“Noia is very pleased with today’s announcement,” said Andrew Bell, Chair of Noia’s Board of Directors. “This is the largest oil & gas production project to proceed in Canada this year. It is exactly what we need right now in Newfoundland and Labrador to bridge the gap to the developments we know are in our future.”

At today’s announcement at The Rooms, Premier Ball outlined the significant employment and procurement opportunities the project will bring based on the agreement for the concrete gravity structure to be constructed in Argentia, as well as for the engineering and fabrication of the accommodations module and the fabrication of the flare boom, helideck and life boat stations to take place in the province.

“Noia has been very vocal about the need to maximize our near-term resources as we prepare for our future opportunities. The well head platform is an innovative solution maximizing oil recovery and generating value for Newfoundland and Labrador through project employment, business opportunities, royalties and taxes. The investment will also ensure the SeaRose will produce well into the future,” said Robert Cadigan, Noia president and CEO. “Our offshore exploration, development and production are supported by a robust supply and service industry and the Innovation and Business Development Fund is an enabler for our members to enhance their world-class capabilities and capacity. This is good news for Noia members and for all residents of the province.”

Further information on the project, as well as detail on the Innovation and Business Development Fund also announced today, may be found in the provincial government news release.
