Noia Announces Session Topics for 2017 Oil & Gas Conference

St. John’s, NL (March 16, 2017) — The Newfoundland and Labrador Oil & Gas Industries Association (Noia) today announced the session topics for its 2017 Oil & Gas Conference taking place June 19-22 in St. John’s, NL.

The Noia Oil & Gas Conference is Canada’s flagship offshore oil & gas industry information event, attracting global oil & gas industry leaders as both speakers and delegates. Themed “Offshore Newfoundland: Relevant, Untapped & Resilient,” the 2017 conference will once again deliver the latest updates on exploration, production and development activities in Canada’s offshore oil & gas Industry and offer over 1,000 delegates the opportunity to partake in discussions about timely industry issues and participate in unparalleled networking opportunities.

This year’s conference will feature the following sessions:

Session One:
Industry Outlook

Given its cyclical nature, the oil & gas industry requires a long-term view. This informative session will see speakers discuss the impact current oil prices are having on global markets now and where they are trending. Delegates will also hear more about what’s happening here at home through a presentation on the highlights and successes of the Hebron development project as well as an update on the benefits of the oil & gas industry to the provincial economy.

Session Two:
TBA

Session Three:
Panel Discussion: Untapped Resources – an open discussion

Local industry leaders representing all facets of the industry will engage in a frank panel discussion about the challenges and opportunities Newfoundland and Labrador’s shallow water basins present. How do we maximize these near-term opportunities efficiency and effectively? What are the issues and more importantly, what are the solutions?

Session Four:
Exploration

The global environment for exploration investment has changed significantly over the past few years. This session will provide a current picture of global exploration activity and highlight where Newfoundland and Labrador fits in this global context.  Delegates will learn about ongoing geoscience projects in our offshore that are providing insight into Newfoundland and Labrador’s oil & gas resource potential. We will also hear from new explorers to our offshore about their companies’ approaches and current exploration plans and programs for their recently acquired licenses.

Session Five:
Environment and Regulatory Leadership

A successful offshore industry depends on regulatory and environmental leadership. In this session, delegates will hear about the drilling program and life of field extension from Suncor Energy, as well as from the C-NLOPB on recent regulatory developments. Complementing these presentations will be a timely update from the Provincial Minister Responsible for Climate Change about where Newfoundland and Labrador fits with regard to greenhouse gas emissions and how the pan-Canadian approach to reducing carbon emissions will impact our offshore industry.

Session Six:
Importance of Near-Term Opportunities

In the current low oil price environment, operators are increasingly looking for infrastructure-led exploration to increase field production while minimizing capital expenditures. In mature basins, developments receiving final investment decisions are subsea tie-backs to existing hosts. This session will explore international trends, focusing on policy changes, technology developments and contract arrangements which are enabling subsea developments.

With a number of speakers already confirmed, and others being added regularly, this is a conference not to be missed. For more information and to register, please visit www.noiaconference.com.
