Noia Announces Session Topics for 2016 Oil & Gas Conference

St. John’s, NL (April 7, 2016) – The Newfoundland and Labrador Oil & Gas Industries Association (Noia) today announced the session topics for its 2016 Oil & Gas Conference, Fueling the Future & Re-Energizing Change, taking place June 20-23 in St. John’s, NL.

The Noia Oil & Gas Conference is Canada’s flagship offshore oil & gas industry information event, attracting attendance from global oil & gas industry leaders, as both speakers and delegates. Attendees at the event receive the latest updates on exploration, production and development activities, partake in discussions about timely industry issues, and are offered unparalleled networking opportunities. Last year’s event featured world-renowned national and international speakers, as well as business and government delegations from around the world.

This year’s conference will feature the following sessions:

Session One
Global Outlook / Economic Perspective
The dramatic drop in oil prices since mid-2014 has had significant implications on oil producing jurisdictions worldwide. This session will focus on the responses and actions that have occurred in different jurisdictions and what these mean to the Atlantic Canada Offshore now and into the future.

Session Two
How is the world responding to current markets?
The oil & gas industry is a cyclical one that requires a long-term view. This informative session will see speakers discuss the impact current oil prices are having on global markets now, where they are trending and what it all means for Newfoundland and Labrador.

Session Three
Panel Discussion: Adapting to Global Change: Lessons learned from different jurisdictions
The past few years have been ones of change and adaptation in the global offshore sector. New technology development has allowed the industry to venture deeper and to more remote areas of the globe, while mature areas like the North Sea have focused on improving recovery and enhancing traditional basins. The industry has also faced cost constraints amplified by challenging world oil prices. During this engaging panel discussion we will hear from experts on how global developments have impacted how they do business, as well as the perspective of senior representatives from other jurisdictions and the global industry.

Session Four
Bridging the Gap: What are the current opportunities in the Jeanne d’Arc Basin?
Since 1997, operators have produced nearly 1.5 billion barrels of oil from the Jeanne d’Arc Basin. Although this is more production than originally predicted, advances in science, technology and empirical knowledge in the area show that there are still small – and possibly large – fields to produce in the basin. Further, as some of these fields have been developed as subsea completions in order to be economically viable, it is still possible to increase production from these wells with current workover technology. This session will explore the possibility of increasing the production life of new and aging fields in the Jeanne d’Arc Basin by maximizing recovery techniques.

Session Five
Technology & Innovation: Is it the key to greater operational efficiency?
The pressure to reduce capital costs and improve operational efficiency has never been greater. Achieving this while maintaining acceptable safety levels will require innovative solutions. With growing availability and application of real time monitoring, ‘big’ data collection and associated analytics, the strategic use of technology presents a very real opportunity. This session will explore the idea of how technology-based integrated operations may evolve our operational environment. We will also hear about the challenges and opportunities of turning technology R&D into a commercial success.

Session Six
Future of Exploration: Assessing Newfoundland and Labrador’s frontier basin potential
Newfoundland and Labrador’s frontier areas are being surveyed by some of the largest exploration seismic and geoscientific survey programs ongoing in the world. In this session, we will examine the early insights from these large scale survey programs on the potential oil & gas prospectivity of our under-explored frontier basins. We will also look at the metocean conditions that exist in these frontiers, the type of drilling rigs that are required to access these regions, and examine the facility design concepts that would be employed to produce future discoveries from our frontier basins.

With a number of speakers already confirmed, and others being added regularly, this is a conference not to be missed. For more information and to register, please visit the conference website.
