Noia Remembers Flight 491 Tragedy

St. John’s, NL – On March 12, 2009, Flight 491 crashed off the province’s shores while enroute to the SeaRose FPSO in the White Rose oil field and Hibernia platform in the Hibernia oilfield. Today, the Newfoundland and Labrador Oil & Gas Industries Association (Noia) remembers the victims of this tragic accident.

“March 12 will forever mark a terrible day in the province’s history,” said Raymond Collins, Chair of Noia’s Board of Directors. “On behalf of Noia’s membership and our Board of Directors, our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those who lost their lives as a result of this tragedy seven years ago.”

Noia representatives will join members of the general public at the Seventh Annual Cougar Flight 491 Memorial Service “Remembering Loved Ones, Celebrating Life, Moving Forward in Hope” which is taking place on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at the West End Baptist Church on Topsail Road.

“The tragic fate of Flight 491 has touched all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians,” added Robert Cadigan, Noia President and CEO. “This heart-breaking event serves to remind us of the importance of ensuring a strong safety culture for those making a living from the province’s harsh offshore waters.”
