St. John’s, NL (June 20, 2017) — The 33rd annual Newfoundland and Labrador Oil & Gas Industries Association (Noia) Oil & Gas Conference got underway today at the St. John’s Convention Centre with delegates hearing from Premier Dwight Ball as well as operators ExxonMobil Canada, Nalcor Energy and Husky Energy.
“Opening day provided delegates with a look at global energy markets and explored the lower-for-longer theme, including how our offshore industry is well positioned to weather the prolonged downturn. Important regulatory issues – specifically, potential changes to the federal environmental assessment process – were also discussed with the negative impact of such changes acknowledged by all parties, including Premier Dwight Ball,” said Robert Cadigan, Noia President and CEO. “Day two will explore these issues even further with presentations by our federal Natural Resources Minister James Carr, as well as an informative panel discussion focused on how to efficiently and effectively maximize our near-term opportunities in the Jeanne d’Arc Basin. We are also pleased to have two of our newest industry entrants, Nexen Energy and Navitas Petroleum, speaking to delegates tomorrow about their future plans in the Newfoundland and Labrador offshore.”
