As the world deals with geopolitical and economic uncertainty, the Energy NL Conference & Exhibition 2026 will open with an examination of current energy circumstances and trends, including how these situations impact the Newfoundland and Labrador energy industry. This session will highlight the advantages of Newfoundland and Labrador and set the stage for discussion throughout the week.

Local Content: Why it Matters

The Newfoundland and Labrador offshore oil and gas industry was built upon the Atlantic Accord which established joint management and intended to support a world-class supply and service sector. This session will examine the current and future engagement of the supply and service sector in the energy industry and why local content matters, including a case study of international practice and ways to monitor local content within the province.

The regulatory landscape is everchanging and the energy industry thrives with certainty. The mandates and roles of regulators are evolving, and a federal office has been created to help projects move through the regulatory process in a manner that builds Canada and drives the economy. This session will discuss the latest discourse on a regulatory system that is looking to help - not hinder development through effective and efficient regulations and project reviews.

Opportunity is abound in the energy sector and Atlantic Canada can be a leader in supplying energy from various sources to the worldFrom offshore wind and natural gas to hydroelectricity, significant planning is underway to take the next steps in sharing the regions varied and abundant energy. This session will focus on some of these emerging opportunities that Energy NL members should begin preparing to play a leading role in.
