(St. John’s, NL – January 12, 2021) At a special virtual meeting today, Noia members voted unanimously to support a number of changes to the association’s by-laws. Included in those changes was an objective for the composition of the Board of Directors to include one-third female directors and one director representing local companies with less than 50 employees.
“The Noia Board of Directors felt it was important to demonstrate strong corporate social responsibility and be leaders in gender diversity. This course of action was reflective of where the board feels we should be as an association, and more widely, as an industry. I was extremely pleased that Noia members felt the same and voted unanimously to support the by-law changes. I am also extremely pleased that we have dedicated a director’s position for local companies of less than 50 members which represents the heart of our membership.”
• Karen Winsor, Chair of the Noia Board of Directors
“Strong corporate governance is about leadership and today Noia and its membership demonstrated progressive leadership by supporting the amendment for one-third female representation. Internationally, an ever-increasing number of organizations are taking such steps to further advance the involvement of women at the corporate level. While Noia has been making significant strides throughout its operations by increasing female speakers at events and serving on committees, supporting an increased role for women on the Board of Directors will enhance the organization overall.”
• Denis Mahoney, Chair of the Noia Governance & Human Resources Committee
