The provincial government has released a major proposed development, the first of its kind in Canada, from the environmental assessment process subject to a number of conditions.
Harbour Grace-based Fermeuse Enterprises Limited is proposing to build a spool base on the north side of Fermeuse Harbour on the southern shore.
A spool base is a specialized onshore construction facility which involves welding and piping work for use in offshore oil and gas production.
Pipes of various dimensions are spooled onto a reel lay vessel for offshore deployment. The facility will be the first permanent base of its kind in Canada according to the proponents.
The leading shareholder of Fermeuse Enterprises Limited is the Harbour Grace Shrimp Company Limited.
