2026 Bid Round Positive Sign for Growth of Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Oil & Gas Sector

(St. John’s, NL – November 5, 2026) Results of the 2026 Call for Bids were released by the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Energy Regulator (C-NLOER) yesterday with 10 successful bids totalling over $260 million in work commitments. Energy NL believes this recent bid round demonstrates the significant role the Newfoundland and Labrador offshore oil and gas sector will continue to play in global energy supply in the coming decades.

“Yesterday was a truly exciting day in our offshore oil and gas sector as we welcomed new investment and new opportunities. With over two million hectares of acreage sold, we are on the cusp of something exceptional and I look forward to working with all the successful bidders as they advance their plans for exploration and engagement of Energy NL members and the Newfoundland and Labrador supply and service sector. This is the most successful bid round in recent years in terms of number of bids and work commitments and demonstrates to the world that offshore Newfoundland and Labrador is a place to invest for reliable, lower carbon energy.

“Energy NL members are excited for the role they can play in preparing for exploration of these offshore areas and should that exploration be successful, as we anticipate it will be, the long-term role they will play in developing offshore oil and gas projects on these land parcels. The outlook for the offshore has changed significantly in recent months and much of that change can be attributed to the approaches of the Government of Canada and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador toward energy project development, including offshore oil and gas, and I thank both governments for the efforts to support the growth of our offshore.”
– Charlene Johnson, Energy NL CEO
