Newfoundland & Labrador will celebrate its 12th annual Oil & Gas Week from February 24 – March 1, 2014. The week long celebration will include a variety of promotional and educational events aimed at celebrating the many accomplishments and contributions of our industry and employees, and educating secondary and post-secondary students about career opportunities within the industry.
Oil & Gas Week is a partnership initiative between Noia, CAPP, three levels of government and the education sector.
Launch Event … The official launch will be hosted by Memorial University’s Earth Sciences Department at the Alexander Murray Building at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 24. During the event, four post-secondary students will be awarded Oil & Gas Week Scholarships from Memorial University of Newfoundland, the Marine Institute and the College of the North Atlantic. A reception will follow.
Energy Day – Exploring Careers in Oil and Gas … will be held on Tuesday, February 2 at the Johnson GEO CENTRE, Signal Hill Road. During the morning, invited high school students will have the opportunity to meet people working in various career paths in the oil and gas industry, take part in panel presentations and visit trade show style displays. The general public is invited to attend between 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. Energy Day continues to be a success each year and has drawn in over 2500 students over the past seven years.
Explore the Opportunities: A Newfoundland & Labrador Geoscience Update … will take place at the Johnson GEO CENTRE on Thursday, February 27 from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Organized by Nalcor Energy, the Department of Natural Resources, and the Geological Survey of Canada, the event will highlight current research initiatives underway in NL, as well as plans for the upcoming year. Presenters from government, industry and academia will explore the opportunities in the province’s oil & gas sector and promote the importance of research and development. Registration is required.
Noia’s 2014 Industry Awards Gala … will take place on Thursday, February 27 from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland. The event will honour two outstanding people: a leader who has made a significant contribution to our industry over the past 35 years; and the first recipient of Noia’s new ‘Rising Star’ award, an individual who is 35 years old or under who has made remarkable strides in their role within our oil & gas industry.
The Oil & Gas Industry Food Drive and Fundraiser … will wrap up the week on Saturday, March 1. Industry employees will be collecting food and cash donations at four Dominion stores in the metro St. John’s area – Lake Avenue (Quidi Vidi Lake), Blackmarsh Road, Mount Pearl and Conception Bay South – with donations going to the Community Food Sharing Association.
