(St. John’s, NL – July 5, 2023)
The following statement was issued today by Energy NL CEO Charlene Johnson on the recent passing of Justice William (Bill) Marshall.
“I was deeply saddened to learn of the recent passing of Justice Marshall. A leading architect of the Atlantic Accord, our offshore oil and gas industry – and indeed the entire province – owes much of its success to Justice Marshall. An individual with incredible foresight, Justice Marshall recognized the importance of our offshore for the future of Newfoundland and Labrador, and more specifically, how critical it was for the resource to be treated as though it was on land and that Newfoundlanders and Labradorians should be the primary beneficiaries of that resource and the nascent supply and service sector have the right to full and fair opportunity to participate in the industry.
“Justice Marshall leaves an enduring legacy in our energy industry and our province. On behalf of Energy NL members, I extended my condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Justice Marshall. I hope the knowledge of Justice Marshall’s profound impact on Newfoundland and Labrador through his public service provides them solace during this difficult time.”
