St. John’s, NL (April 25, 2017) — The Newfoundland and Labrador Oil & Gas Industries Association (Noia) today announced former Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Brian Peckford as a luncheon keynote speaker at this year’s Noia Oil & Gas Conference.
The Noia Oil & Gas Conference is Canada’s flagship offshore oil & gas industry information event, attracting global oil & gas industry leaders as both speakers and delegates. Themed Offshore Newfoundland: Relevant, Untapped & Resilient, the 2017 conference will once again deliver the latest updates on exploration, production and development activities in Canada’s offshore oil & gas industry and offer over 1,000 delegates the opportunity to partake in discussions about timely industry issues and participate in unparalleled networking opportunities.
Brian Peckford was premier of Newfoundland and Labrador from March 1979 to March 1989 and is best known for his administration’s ground breaking Atlantic Accord, an agreement with the federal government which provided revenues to Newfoundland and Labrador’s offshore oil & gas resources as if those resources were on land. The Atlantic Accord became the catalyst for the development of the province’s offshore industry.
In honour of Noia’s 40th anniversary being celebrated in 2017 with the theme of Learning from the past. Focused on the future, Mr. Peckford will provide a timely address about the origins of the industry, the efforts that led to the Atlantic Accord and his thoughts on the future during his presentation titled “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.” This keynote luncheon will close the conference on Thursday, June 22, at 1:00 p.m.
